IT’S TIME TO TURN THE PAGE

Hello, I would like to introduce myself to those of you who don’t know me; my name is Tony Page and I am running for Douglas County Assessor on May 18th 2010.

I was born in Douglas County in 1967 where I grew up and went to school in Glide Oregon. I met my wife of almost 20 years, Jennifer Boatman (who is now deceased from an automobile accident) when I was in junior high. We had a great friendship and partnership and we were very close from our early teenage years onward. We also had a wonderful, healthy and beautiful baby girl named Jordan in 1990.

Growing up in the Glide area gave me a deep appreciation of nature and I became an avid hunter, fisherman and sports enthusiast; I also enjoyed whitewater rafting, backpacking, and enjoyed much of my time exploring in the mountains. I also learned to enjoy music and was lucky enough to have had lessons on guitar and in piano from age 6 until 16 from a very highly accredited music teacher.

At age 12 I also learned the value of a dollar working the summers bucking hay and doing farm work to earn money for school clothes. I developed a good work ethic through the years while working after school all the way through high school.

In 1986 I moved to Central Oregon and became the head sawyer. I was in charge of the hula room and the round table at Cascade Studs, a lumber mill located outside of Chiloquin Oregon. After a couple of years working there the mill burned down from a welding accident and I moved back to Douglas County.

Shortly after this time I went to college and trade school and opened up a business with my wife Jennifer. We built up a good clientele and then sold the business in the early 90’s so I could start a career in Real Estate.

I really came to enjoy the challenges of Real Estate and learning all the complexities of the market place. Then in 1998 together with a partner, I opened the Glide office of All State Real Estate.  We successfully ran it until I decided to go to work at the Assessor’s office.

In the meantime through the years since starting Real Estate I had been increasing my Real Estate education whenever possible and had gone to the ERA top Gun Real Estate Academy as well as Lane and Chemeketa College for Real Estate Appraisal education.

In 2001 I put my appraisal education to use and I went to work at the Douglas County Assessor’s Office as a Deputy Assessor and Appraiser. Working in this office is where my understanding of Measure 50 Tax Law, the analyzing of raw sales data and the appeal processes got perfected.

Also while at the Assessor’s office I continued my Real Estate education taking hundreds of hours of appraisal classes, real estate and property management law, computer and statistical analysis classes and much more.

In 2008 I then accepted the position of the Real Property Officer for the Douglas County Land Department, a position that I am currently still holding.

Some of my duties at the Land Department include appraising County owned lands, disposing of excess land including tax foreclosures, acquisition of land for County road projects and other departments, property management and much more.

“In closing I would like to say the majority of my life has been devoted to, participating in and studying the Real Estate market, and I believe from my experience that I am very qualified to hold the position of Douglas County Assessor. I am asking you the “Tax Payer” and the residents of Douglas County to put your faith and trust in me and to elect me on May 18th as “Your” Douglas County Assessor. It’s Time to Turn the Page”. – Tony Page
